Jason Alexander was born on September 23, 1959, in Newark, New Jersey, United States. He was born into a Jewish family. He attended Livingston High School and wanted to be a magician at the time. Later on, he got interested in theater and decided to pursue it as a career. He attended Boston University studying theater. His professor advised him to pursue comedy instead of classical acting. He dropped out of college and went to New York to become a full-time actor.

He started his career on stage as a singer and a dancer. He appeared in several plays including “Jerome Robbins’ Broadway” for which he received a Tony Award in 1989. He voice-acted for the movie “The Return of Jafar” and “The Word of Promise”.
